The Ability Project


Potential Takoma Park (MD) location. The Ability Project responded to a solicitation issued in early 2014 by the City of Takoma Park, Maryland, seeking to dispose of a 1.2 acre land parcel know as the “Takoma Junction Lot” in the hear of “Old Takoma”. In the fall of 2014, the City publish a ‘short-list’ of 4 competitors for the property, including the Ability Project. In April 2014, The Ability Project submitted an application to the Maryland Dept. of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH) for a capital grant to fund acquisition and construction.

The City’s selection of property developer as well as the decision by DHMH on the grant application are expect to be announced in the first quarter of 2015.

Meetings, Events, Status

The Ability Project has sponsored gatherings large and small since 2011. The program was formally organized in the fall of 2013 with the Board of Directors beginning the tasks of preparing a detailed operating plan. Because this is a community organized effort with no paid professional support, there is no formal schedule. The Board hopes to present a formal organization plan to prospective members in the second or third quarter of 2014 and commence operations by the end of 2014.
