The Ability Project has been established in response to the growing need to assist adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities transition from home and school to a permanent place in our community. Adults needing a supportive environment are often overlooked by government and private agencies and do not receive support services for independent living and working. These adults have a tremendous potential to be successful, contributing members of the community, but lack the professional and social support to meet those goals and live independently.
The mission of the Ability Project is to…
- Create a ‘community within a community’ in which adults with developmental disabilities are able to live, work, learn, relax and play independently within an existing, larger community.
- Develop a social service model that utilizes but does not depend upon available government funding and is affordable as possible.
- Become a safe, sustainable and permanent residential, employment and social structure for the lives a developmentally disabled adults.
- Serve as a model for the establishment of similar communities by like-minded families anywhere and everywhere.
